We are commissioned to design a cafe by the client. According to the client’s requirements that would like to be an iconic building on the corner site, we propose a simple architecture to maximize potential of the site, rather than a complicated building. The reason that we propose a simple design is that the context of the site is somehow unplaced, having small residential and commercial buildings with signages, so the simple building can be standed out obviously. Along with the simple mass, we design symmetrical elevation, which is a Post-Modernism architectural expression. Why is Post-Modernism architecture in this place? We would exactly say that it is our reinterpretation for the Post-Modernism architecture. Through abstraction of the architectural representation of Post-Modernism, our design shows harmonized and tranquility on the site.

클라이언트는 코너 대지의 작은 카페 건축을 의뢰하였다. 눈에띄는 건물을 원했던 클라이언트의 요구에 따라서, 우리는 코너 대지의 잠재력을 최대화하기 위해서 복잡한 건물이 아닌 단순한 건축 디자인을 제안하였다. 사이트 주변은 다세대 주택, 상가 등으로 매우 복잡한 컨텍스트를 가지고 있었기 때문에 반대로 단순한 매스가 돋보일 수 있는 가능성이 있었다. 단순한 매스와 더불어 우리는 포스트모더니즘 건축풍의 비례를 가지는 입면을 디자인하였다. 이 장소와 사이트에 왜 포스트 모더니즘 건축인가? 정확히 말하자면 포스트 모더니즘 건축에 대한 우리만의 재해석이다. 주변의 복잡한 건물들 사이에서 포스트 모더니즘의 건축기법인 고전건축에서의 비례와 장식을 추상화하였다. 이는 주변 컨텍스트에서 조화로우면서 정돈된 건축을 나타낼 것이다.
