New York, City of Memory, authored by architect Yongmin Lee who has continuously researched for the city of New York, is a liberal arts book in terms of architecture and urbanism, in which he extends the concept and its architectural spectrum of his first book, Reading Architecture in New York City – published in 2020. Why does he research for the city of New York? How is NYC called as a capital city of the world? What characteristics of architecture and the city does NYC have? How is the New Yorker’s urban life style? Started from those novel and provocative questions, he has written this book that is composed of several architectural and urban stories, based on NYC’s history, humanity and culture. Young architect Yongmin Lee is very serious for the city of New York. He thinks that NYC can be a good prototype or mirror to reflect today’s metropolitan cities, like Seoul. Through his digested stories of New York, Yongmin wants to communicate and discuss with readers, deeply about the thoughts and ideas for future Korean cities.
뉴욕, 기억의 도시 책은 뉴욕에 대해 연구하고 있는 건축가 이용민이 ‘뉴욕 건축을 걷다’에 이어 두번째로 출간한 뉴욕의 건축 및 도시에 대한 인문 도서이다. 그는 왜 뉴욕에 대해 연구하고 있을까? 뉴욕은 어떻게 세계인들의 수도로 불리게 되었을까? 뉴욕의 건축과 도시는 어떠한 특징을 가지고 있을까? 뉴요커들의 도시 라이프는 어떠할까? 이렇게 참신하고 도발적인 질문들로 시작되어 집필된 이 책은 뉴욕의 건축과 도시를 바탕으로 하여 도시 뉴욕의 역사와 인문학적인 이야기들로 구성되어 있다. 젊은 건축가 이용민은 뉴욕에 대해 진지하다. 그는 뉴욕이 우리의 현대 도시를 비추는 거울이 될 수 있다고 생각한다. 그가 파헤친 뉴욕에 대한 이야기들을 통해 우리의 도시 라이프를 비추어보고 미래 한국 도시들의 방향성에 대해 함께 생각해보면 어떨까?
